Huron Tiger Volleyball and Local Businesses Raise Over $7,000 to Fight Breast Cancer

Between the Huron Tiger Volleyball t-shirt sales and Pink Out Auction, the 7th annual One-Mile Walk for Breast Cancer hosted by Oympic Chevrolet Buick GMC and the annual Runnings’ Ladies Night Out, a total of $7,047.75 was raised to help support breast cancer awareness and early detection in Huron.

Many brave walkers made the one-mile trek around Ravine Lake on October 13, 2023, for the Olympic Motor Sales One-Mile Walk for Breast Cancer. Walk registrations, donations and raffle ticket sales contributed to the total of $2,826.75.

On October 18, Runnings of Huron hosted their annual Ladies Night Out, raising $1,219 through pink ribbon sales, an employee-sponsored raffle and a portion of the pink bucket sales from the evening. This year’s funds bring the total raised by the Huron-based Runnings’ store to more than $20,000 in over 12 years of hosting the event.

The Huron Tiger Volleyball Team sold t-shirts during the month of October and held an online auction the evening of the annual Pink Out Volleyball match on October 24. The team’s fundraisers contributed a total raised of $3,002.

Contributions from October breast cancer fundraising events are placed in the HRMC Foundation’s We’ve Got You Covered fund which supports local breast health education and offers free mammograms for those in need. “The Tiger volleyball players, parents and coaches put a lot of energy into supporting We’ve Got You Covered and the women in our community,” said Levi Kary, HRMC Foundation executive director. “Our businesses that hold events also give an enormous amount of time and effort year after year to hold successful fundraising events for this important cause and of course we can’t forget the great businesses who sponsor our events and donate auction items.”

In addition to the events in October, Shoe Sensation donated $229.30 and Cookie Dough Cupcakes sold pink ribbon cupcakes for the cause. The Golfing for a Cause tournament in June raised $11,485. In total, over $18,500 was raised for the We’ve Got You Covered Fund in 2023.

Area women concerned about finances when scheduling a mammogram are invited to call 605-353-6315 or can apply for financial assistance online at www.huronregional.org/mammos.  All inquiries are confidential.
