HRMC Foundation Health Care Scholarships Now Open

Huron Regional Medical Center (HRMC) Foundation is pleased to announce applications are now available for scholarship funds to promote careers in health care in the Huron area, according to Shawn Martin, HRMC Foundation executive director.

“Our primary goal is to encourage individuals to further their education while pursuing a career in a health care field with the outcome being more qualified persons to care for our community into the future,” explained Martin. “We welcome students of all ages to apply and learn more about the lifelong fulfillment of a career in health care.”

The scholarships are designed to give local scholars the chance to achieve their career goals while bringing much-needed medical expertise to the community. There are two categories which are available to area high school seniors and college students pursuing health careers.

  • The Healthy Huron Interest Scholarship focuses on supporting those who are interested in a career in the medical field but are either not pursuing a degree in a critical need field or are not ready to make a commitment to return to the Huron area after graduation. Actual scholarship award amounts will be determined by the scholarship committee.

  • The Healthy Huron Commitment Scholarship is the equivalent of a full-ride scholarship to students pursuing degrees in high-need medical areas at one of South Dakota’s four technical schools. This is possible through our partnership with Build Dakota. The Foundation pays half of the student's tuition, and Build Dakota takes care of the rest. In return, the recipient commits to completing their education and returning to our community to work in their field of study. After the student fulfills their work commitment, typically the length of their program plus one year, they are free of any obligation to repay the scholarship. Students pursuing a degree at through a university program are also eligible to apply.

“Ensuring that the Huron area continues to have high-quality, dedicated healthcare staff is a top priority for the supporters of the HRMC Foundation and we are dedicated to supporting that goal,” said Martin.

Applications for both Interest and Commitment Scholarships must be submitted electronically by 5:00 p.m. on March 31, 2022. To learn more and to apply, visit www.hrmcfoundation.org. For questions, call 605-353-6315 or e-mail mmalsommoore@huronregional.org
