Trusted Knowledge
For David Dick, a Healthy Huron comes down to three things: accessibility, helpfulness and knowledge
“People need access, they need to be helped, and they need not just information—but knowledge,” the president and CEO of Huron Regional Medical Center says.
“Trusted knowledge,” he adds. “We are here for our community, and are committed to making sure our nurses and physicians—our knowledge holders—have all they need to take the information they receive and turn it into knowledge for our patients, and our community.”
The sharing of knowledge is reciprocal. The hospital is also looking to the greater Huron region for their knowledge to help the hospital continue to strengthen its work. “We’re constantly finding ways we can involve the community to discover solutions to our greatest opportunities and needs. That’s why I am so excited about the work happening through the HRMC Foundation in recent years,” he says.
The Foundation, led by Executive Director Paul Rann, works directly with the community to support initiatives that ensure Huron—as a community—remains healthy today, and well into the future.
Through the Foundation, scholarships are awarded to students looking to go into health and wellness professions and willing to commitment to returning to Huron to work at the hospital. The financial support, David says, is an example of love for community expressed through philanthropy.
“The level of accountability at a rural hospital like ours is unmatched. Our physicians and nurses love science. They love medicine. And they could practice anywhere. But they love their work because they are doing more than just taking care of someone—they are taking care of a community they love.”
It’s a value system that David believes makes Huron special, and well worth committing to.
“This is the community’s hospital. It is theirs,” he says. “With their partnership through the Foundation, they are saying, ‘we are in this together.’ And together, we can—and will—do big things.”
